Tony Schumacher’s piece

I would just like to say a big Thankyou for what you have written about this fab building, it’s very moving, I especially like her ‘fluttering eyelashes!’
Once again here’s to saving the futurist.

  1. Me and my husband had our first date at the Futurist, I was 15 and he was 17 years old. He asked for double seats, (they were more comfortable) they cost 7/6p in old money. He thought we were getting a bargin, two seats for 7/6 but that was for each seat. He didn’t have enough money to pay for them so I had to lend him £2. I worked in Woolworths and he worked on the Docks. My pay was about £3 10 shillings, he paid me back the next week. It didnt put me off him so I must have liked him. The film was El Cid with Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren. I can still remember their lips were moving out of sync with the sound, ha ha.
